The Town of Chesapeake Beach by order of Mayor Bruce Wahl has issued a Voluntary
Evacuation Notice for the properties in Town on the shore line of the Chesapeake Bay. Theย  combination of high tide, storm surge, and high wave action pose a significant threat to low lying homes along the shore line. The possibility of high rain fall totals and sustained winds pose a significant threat of erosion for homes along the cliff areas of the shore line. The Town is asking all residents in these areas to evacuate by 4 PM Saturday 8/27/11 to higher ground. The Town is providing sand bags (10 per person) at Town Hall 2-5:30 Friday and 8 AM to 4 PM Saturday, bring your own shovel. Calvert County is also providing sand bags (25 per person) at Mt. Hope Salt Dome, 92 Pushaw Rd. Sunderland and emergency shelters starting at noon Saturday 8/27/11. Emergency Responders will not be dispatched if conditions pose a significant risk to their safety (sustained winds of 50 mph or gusts at 65 mph or higher), which will impact
their ability to retrieve citizens from their homes during the storm.ย ย
