At approximately 3:31 pm, on March 28, Trooper J. Wiersma was on routine patrol traveling southbound U.S. Route 301, north of Theodore Green Boulevard, White Plains, when he observed traveling in front of him a Toyota Camry bearing MD registration A163535, the driver was not wearing his safety restraint.
Trooper Wiersma observed the silver clasp of the seat belt hanging to the left of the driverโs head.ย Trooper Wiersma initiated a traffic stop.
Upon contact with the driver, Trooper Wiersma asked him why he wasnโt wearing a seat belt.ย The driver did not respond.
Trooper Wiersma asked the driver for identification.ย The driver did not have any physical identification on his person.
The driver stated his name was Cory Tyree Jenifer, Date of birth September 22 1978.ย The driver stalled with the year of birth and appeared to be very nervous.ย Trooper Wiersma ordered the driver and his passenger to exit the vehicle.
Trooper Wiersma spoke with the passenger and the passenger stated his name was Cory Tyree Jenifer, with a date of birth September 22 1978.ย This information coincided with his physical driverโs license.ย Jenifer further stated that they switched positions driving and the driver lied because his license was not โright.โ
Trooper Wiersma confronted the driver about the information which was revealed to him.ย The driver then stated his name was Keith Anthony Baldwin, with a date of birth of April 29 1966.ย When Trooper Wiersma asked how old he was, Baldwin stated 36, then 38, the said, โno wait,โ and, โIโm 41.โ
The driver was placed under arrest for False Statement to a Police Officer and Driving on a suspended license.ย ย The driver was transported to the Charles County Detention Center for processing.
Fingerprints were taken and faxed to CJIS for proper identification.ย While fingerprints were taken, Baldwin stated his real name was Kevin Lionel Baldwin, with a date of birth of June 7 1968, of Baltimore, Maryland.ย The CJIS response confirmed his name as Kevin Lionel Baldwin.ย The MILES/NCIC check revealed Baldwin had a valid license and was not suspended, however, it also confirmed that Baldwin was wanted through the Baltimore City Police Department.
Baldwin was charged with the following: did cause to be made a false statement to Trooper J. Wiersma, a peace officer, knowing the same to be false, with the intent to deceive and with the intent to cause an investigation and other action to be taken, and did upon arrest, knowingly and with the intent to deceive, make a false statement to a peace officer concerning his identity/date of birth.
Baldwin has used at least one alias in the past and has been charged with a number of crimes in Baltimore over recent years. One warrant was issued for his arrest last year for attempted murder.
