The St. Maryโs County Libraries, in conjunction with the St. Maryโs County Division of Tourism, awarded prizes to the winners of the Adventure Passport program at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 5:15 p.m. at the Leonardtown Library in Leonardtown.
The winners of the Adventure Passport program were Jenna Bell, 8; Caitlin Toler, 6 and Jon Pinto, 9.ย The winners each received a copy of Written In Bone: Buried Lives of Jamestown and Colonial Maryland by Sally Walker. One winner was selected from the completed passport entries received at each of the three library branches.
The Adventure Passport program was part of the campaign to promote Marylandโs 375th birthday and was designed to encourage children to learn about history through visits to local historic sites and museums.ย The program, designed for children ages five through twelve, required the children to visit at least five of the ten historic sites included in the passport in order to enter the contest.
After visiting at least five of the sites, children received their final stamp at one of the three libraries, a coupon for a free kidโs sundae at Brusterโs Real Ice Cream in Hollywood and a chance to win a copy of Written In Bone.
The Adventure Passport program was made possible by a grant from the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.ย The passports were printed by Heritage Printing and Graphics.
