La Plata, MD – A Charles County grand jury has handed down a five-count indictment against a Waldorf man who allegedly tried to kill his girlfriend while she was in the shower. The alleged assault occurred Jan. 9 at an apartment in Waldorf, police reports and court documents show.
The accused—identified as Claude John Boushey, 25—is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
According to an application for statement of charges submitted by Pfc. B. Rash of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told police she was in the shower “texting on her phone when Claude came into the bathroom and attempted to get in the shower with her. She stated that when he saw her on her phone he accused her of cheating on him and demanded to see her phone and for her to unlock it.” The victim told police she refused to comply with Boushey’s demand. He then allegedly “grabbed her by the throat and slammed her head against the shower wall.” Police said the victim claimed that while Boushey was choking her he stated that she was not to talk to him that way. Then, Boushey allegedly grabbed a flat hair iron and threatened to throw it in the shower and plug it in. The woman also accused Boushey of grabbing her by the hair, throwing her on the floor, threatening her with a razor, grabbing her tightly by the neck and verbally threatening to kill her more than once. The victim, who told police she was close to unconsciousness, subsequently freed herself by poking Boushey in the eyes and kicking him in the groin.
The victim’s roommate was at Boushey’s apartment when the alleged assault occurred. Both women fled the scene. While being questioned by police, the roommate confirmed the victim’s statement about Boushey making death-threats.
A warrant was issued for Boushey’s arrest and he was subsequently located and apprehended by officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s Domestic Violence Unit. On Jan. 16, Boushey was released on his own recognizance, court records stated. He is to have no contact with either the victim or the witness. Boushey is being represented by attorney John A. Adams of Annapolis.
