Calloway, MD—TRAPT is a rock band that formed in the state of California during the mid-90s. While most famous for their 2002 single “Headstrong,” TRAPT has released three EPs and seven full length studio albums. Their most recent album, DNA, was released in 2016.

Despite their biggest hit being released almost 15 years ago, TRAPT still tours successfully and creates music. While some of their appeal may come from a nostalgic level, TRAPT continues to have a dedicated fan base. In recent years, they have toured with bands such as Saving Abel, 12 Stones, Alien Ant Farm and other alternative rock groups. Their music is featured in several video games and movies as well.

For the first time ever, TRAPT is playing in St. Mary’s County Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the 5 South Event Center in Calloway. 5 South is a rental hall located off Point Lookout Road. This rental hall holds just under 600 people standing, and 450 seated. The TRAPT concert will be a standing event, except for some stools by the bar, which will be stocked with beer, wine, and spirits on the night of the concert.

TRAPT is the second national band that 5 South will host. The 80s hair metal band Kix, originally based out of Hagerstown came to the venue just last year. The promoters at 5 South have reached out to several national bands to play, including Fuel and Puddle of Mudd. 5 South doesn’t narrow their musical choices down to one genre, they have also featured R&B artists, reggae bands, and have EDM (electronic dance music) concerts every month. A full listing of their upcoming events can be viewed on their website.

Despite the consistent booking of musical groups, 5 South is not solely a concert venue. This spacious rental hall hosts weddings and receptions, parties, vendors, banquets, and any kind of event that one can imagine. Besides the main open room, there is also a smaller room that holds up to 50 people. This back room can be used as a bridal suite, for baby showers, meetings, classes, and is also used by bands getting ready to perform. 5 South is currently awaiting approval to start hosting large outdoor events right by the building as well. An outdoor event would have the capacity of holding up to 1,000 people.

Calvert Marine Museum is a popular host for national bands, but to have bands perform at 5 South gives a much more affordable and intimate experience, as the audience will be able to get closer to the stage. TRAPT coming to St. Mary’s County opens the doors for even more bands to come through. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. Opening for TRAPT are two local bands, Shallowdeep and Iz’em. Tickets can be purchased through a link on the rental hall’s website.
