HOLLYWOOD, Md. – A local real estate agent has reported the theft of 35 of her signs from various locations across St. Mary’s County, leading to a surprising twist involving a former business partner.
Ms. Gunn of “Century 21” told Deputy J. Senatore of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on May 5, 2024, that she had been noticing her signs disappearing for nine months. In an attempt to track the missing signs, she recently began attaching Apple AirTags to them.
The AirTags led her to an address in Hollywood, where her former real estate partner, Ronald Hart Lord, resided. Gunn and Lord, once family through marriage, had a tumultuous history, including a failed real estate partnership and a bitter legal battle in which Lord sued Gunn for $36,000 and lost.
When contacted by DFC Wimberly about the missing signs, Lord and his wife, Pennie Arlene Platt, reportedly admitted to stealing four signs that they stole on May 4, 2024. Platt supposedly acted as the getaway driver in each theft. Lord reportedly removed four signs and stakes from under his shed.
The total value of the stolen items, including the signs, stakes and the AirTags, is estimated to be around $163. Gunn reported an additional 22 signs and stakes worth $242 were also stolen but could not be tracked.
The stolen signs were marked with “Connie Gunn-Realtor” and featured a colored picture of her face. Lord and Platt reportedly confessed to drawing mustaches and beards on Gunn’s face on two signs.
Lord and Platt were charged with Theft Scheme: $100 to under $1,500, four counts of Theft Less Than $100, and Malicious Destruction of Property Value less than $1,000. They are set to appear in the St. Mary’s County District Court for a preliminary hearing on June 14, 2024, at 1 p.m.
