Leonardtown, MD – MedStar St. Maryโ€™s Hospital is seeking a local artist to donate their talent and time to create a mural in the hospitalโ€™s main stairwell.

Hoping to bring the outside in for associates who spend long shifts indoors, this project is funded through the Healthiest Maryland Business Worksite Wellness Grant aimed at getting Marylanders moving. As the second-largest employer in St. Maryโ€™s County, the nonprofit hospital supports more than 1,200 staff members through initiatives to help them live better. Taking the stairs is a great way to climb toward better health.

โ€œWe hope a theme depicting Southern Maryland and our beautiful community will entice our associates and visitors to take extra steps each day,โ€ said Andrea Hamilton, grants program coordinator and wellness committee member at MedStar St. Maryโ€™s. โ€œPainting the stairwell with calming scenes will revitalize this space for so many.โ€

Art supplies needed (up to $750) will be provided by the hospital with time donated by the artist. He or she will be promoted on social media and acknowledged by prominently signing their work. The project should be completed by May 1, 2018, with specific hours to be arranged with the selected artist.

โ€œWe will be so grateful to have this project completed โ€” and very appreciative of the person who volunteers to create a lasting impact with their talent,โ€ Hamilton said.

Applicants must be age 18 or older. Three samples from the artistโ€™s portfolio will be requested when applying. Visit MedStarStMarys.org/StepsToWellness to learn more and apply by Friday, Dec. 1, 2017.
