A Charles County man who said he is currently negotiating with the owners of a shuttered Solomons restaurant and hoping to reopen the business in spring appeared before the Calvert County Liquor Board Thursday, Jan. 23. With not very much on their agenda and with a state alcohol enforcement specialist present, the board was happy to listen and offer guidance.ย

ย

โ€œIโ€™m trying to limit my liabilities,โ€ said Donnie Byroads, who is hoping to take over operations at The Captainโ€™s Table, which closed last year. Byroads told the board the restaurantโ€™s liquor license was taken away and he will have to apply for a new one. He would also need to identify a Calvert resident as the businesses local agent with a minimum 10 percent interest in the business before the license could be obtained.ย

ย

Byroads explained he would like to expand the business to include sales of alcohol and food to guests at an adjacent hotel and boat owners whose vessels are moored at a nearby marina. He added he wants to have the business in operation by April, when vessels in Solomons are launched for the boating season.ย

ย

Liquor Board Chair Beth Swoap told Byroads he could possibly obtain approval for a license prior to his April target date if all the other necessary permits, including a use and occupancy, are in hand.ย
