Southern Maryland Motocross Rider Undergoes Multiple Surgeries After Devastating Budds Creek Crash

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A longtime Southern Maryland motocross rider is undergoing multiple surgeries after suffering devastating leg injuries during a crash at Budds Creek Motocross Park over Mother’s Day weekend.

Brian Budd was seriously injured Sunday during a race at the popular Mechanicsville motocross track, where emergency crews responded shortly before 11:40 a.m. May 10 for a reported traumatic injury involving a 44-year-old rider.

Responders reported Budd suffered severe trauma to his right leg, including injuries that cut off circulation, along with a reported loss of consciousness and altered mental status following the crash.

A landing zone was established at the motocross park as Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 responded to the scene. Budd was later airlifted to UM Capital Region Medical Center for emergency treatment.

According to a GoFundMe campaign organized by Dana Durso, Budd is now undergoing multiple surgeries as doctors work to save his leg.

“Brian Budd has been riding and competing in motocross and woods racing for over 20 years,” Durso wrote in the fundraiser. “He has a long journey ahead of him and we are asking for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”

The fundraiser states Budd recently stepped back from racing to focus on growing his local business and supporting his 12-year-old son Trent, who recently began competing in motocross events himself.

Friends, racers, and community members have since rallied around the Budd family, launching an online fundraiser to assist with mounting medical costs and recovery expenses during what supporters describe as a lengthy rehabilitation process.
