The detonation of several plastic bombs outside a Charles County residence late last week is under investigation, authorities reported.

According to Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Duane Svites, the incident occurred Friday, May 24 around 9:30 p.m. in front of a single-family home on Bellwood Drive in Pomfret.

โ€œThe homeowner heard explosions coming from the front yard,โ€ Svites stated. โ€œWhen she looked outside she discovered several plastic chemical reaction devices detonating on her front yard.โ€

Personnel from the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office were initially dispatched and they requested the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Officeโ€™s Bomb Squad.

โ€œSeveral vehicles were seen leaving the area just prior to the devices exploding,โ€ said Svites.

No vehicle descriptions have been divulged and no information was available as to whether any injuries were sustained during the incident.

Property damage is estimated at $50.

The investigation is being conducted by Svites and Dfm. John Nelson.
