Three Trash Trucks Catch Fire In Owings

OWINGS, Md. — Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2026, to a commercial vehicle fire in Owings that involved three trash trucks and caused significant damage at an industrial property.

Crews were dispatched at approximately 5:23 p.m. to the 7100 block of Industrial Drive for a reported vehicle fire. Initial reports indicated a trash or recycling truck was on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a large fire involving commercial trash vehicles. The fire spread due to exposure, ultimately involving a total of three trash trucks.

Fire crews worked quickly to knock down the flames and prevent further spread.

After bringing the fire under control, crews remained on scene conducting overhaul operations, checking the contents of the trucks for hot spots and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished. Firefighters also worked to contain and secure fuel-related hazards.

No injuries were reported.

Officials reviewed available camera footage as part of the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
