UPDATE 9:20 p.m. From MSP La Plata
Waldorf, MD – On Monday, May 7 at approximately 3:48 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police (MSP) La Plata Barrack responded to a reported motor vehicle collision in the area of Route 301 and Pierce Road. Due to the seriousness of the collision, members from the MSP Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) responded to the scene to assist.
Upon arrival, Troopers determined a white Nissan truck, bearing Maryland registration “56X355” was stopped for the red traffic signal on southbound U.S. Rt. 301 in lane 3 at Pierce Road. A blue Jeep Wrangler, bearing Maryland registration “5CB8650” was traveling behind the Nissan slowing to come to a stop. A yellow Freightliner (Penske) box truck, bearing Maryland registration “4CW6456” was also traveling southbound behind the Jeep Wrangler. Witnesses advised the Freightliner truck struck the rear of the Jeep Wrangler which was forced into the side of the Nissan. The Freightliner truck then collided into the rear of the Nissan truck. Trooper made contact with the driver of the Freightliner truck, Michael Maurice Ford, 49. While talking with Ford, the odor of alcohol was detected coming from his breath. Ford was put through Standardized Field Sobriety, which he failed, placed under arrest and transported to the Barrack for processing. The Jeep Wrangler’s driver, Victoria Lynn Willett, 25, and the front seat passenger, Jonathan Evans Reufly, 30, received minor injuries, were treated on scene by medical personnel and released. The backseat passenger, a 3-month old baby, received life-threatening injuries. Emergency Services Technicians assessed his injuries and transported him to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center for further treatment. He was then transported via Medivac Helicopter Trooper 7 to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C for further treatment. The driver of the Nissan, John Fitzgerald Neal, 51, and the front seat passenger, Momodou Lamin Loppy, 49, were both treated by medical personnel on scene and released with minor injuries.
Anyone who may have witnessed or who has information regarding the above mentioned incident is asked to contact Cpl. Justin Zimmerman of the MSP Crash Team at 301-392-1231. The investigation is continuing and is being handled by Zimmerman.

Waldorf, MD – According to the Maryland State Police, US Route 301 (Crain Highway) has been reopened in both directions.

Waldorf, MD – Police in Charles County are preparing to re-close a portion on northbound US Route 301 (Crain Highway) in the area of Pierce Road in order to land an emergency helicopter.
UPDATE – 4:43 p.m.
Crain Highway southbound at Pierce Road is expected to be closed for several hours due to a serious accident. All southbound traffic will be detoured onto Rt 205/Mattawoman Beantown Rd.
UPDATE – 4:23 p.m.
The northbound lanes of Crain Highway have been reopened. The southbound lanes will remain closed for a considerable amount of time, according to the Charles County Citizen Notification System.
WALDORF, Md. – Crain Highway and Pierce Road, Waldorf has been blocked to airlift a two-month-old child who fell unconscious after a serious crash, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Both the north and southbound lanes of traffic has come to a halt while crews work the scene. No further details have been released at this time. Expect delays in the area.
