LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A Leonardtown man is facing drug possession and paraphernalia charges after a traffic stop allegedly led deputies to crack cocaine and a glass pipe inside his vehicle.

Demitri Raymond Gardiner, 32, was charged following an Aug. 13 traffic stop near Route 5 and Moakley Street in Leonardtown.

According to charging documents, a St. Mary’s County sheriff’s sergeant stopped a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado at approximately 8:08 p.m. after observing an inoperable third brake light.

Gardiner was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

A K-9 free-air sniff was conducted around the truck, and the dog allegedly alerted to the presence of controlled dangerous substances, according to the documents.

Deputies then searched the vehicle and allegedly recovered a glass crack pipe containing suspected drug residue along with a plastic container holding four rock-like substances.

The deputy wrote that, based on training and experience, the rock-like material was believed to be crack cocaine.

Gardiner was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on a $1,000 unsecured personal bond following his Aug. 13 arrest.

A trial is set for Oct. 1 in St. Mary’s District Court.
