At 8:52 p.m. April 25, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 8900 block of Gunston Road in Welcome for the motorcycle crash.
Investigation revealed Kevin Ashely Carpenter, 25, of La Plata, was working on a 1979 Yamaha 750 motorcycle at a residence when he took the motorcycle for a test drive and lost control. The motorcycle left the right side of the road and struck a large stump.
A citizen attempted CPR prior to officers’ arrival but was unsuccessful. Carpenter was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel due to severe head trauma.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
This is the 12th fatality this year from 11 crashes.
