WASHINGTON — An Edgewater man who worked for Voice of America was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after prosecutors said he used phones inside the agency’s Washington headquarters to make repeated anonymous threats against former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Seth Jason, 65, pleaded guilty in December to interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure and anonymous telecommunications harassment. U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan sentenced him Thursday, June 18, 2026, and ordered two years of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors described the case as a 15-month campaign of intimidation that included eight calls to Greene’s congressional offices between October 2023 and January 2025, while Greene was serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The calls included threats against Greene, her staff and her family, according to court documents. Investigators traced each call to Voice of America headquarters, where Jason was employed at the time.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro described the case as part of a broader rise in threats against elected officials.
“Seth Jason repeatedly threatened to assault and kill former Congresswoman Greene and he did so from inside Voice of America where he had a taxpayer-funded job,” Pirro stated.
Court documents show the threats referenced firearms, ammunition and Greene’s public events. In one October 2023 voicemail, Jason used a false name and referenced bringing AK-47s to a Greene rally, according to prosecutors.
The threats continued into January 2025, shortly before the presidential inauguration. Prosecutors reported that one voicemail claimed Greene would not “see the inaugural,” while another warned that Greene and her staffers “were as good as dead.”
“No one should have to live their life in fear wondering if threats are about to be fulfilled,” Pirro stated. “Today’s sentence sends a clear message. My office will not take these threats lightly.”
The case was investigated by the United States Capitol Police and the Department of State Office of Inspector General.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan M. Horan and Assistant U.S. Attorney Travis Wolf prosecuted the case.
