LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Newburg man was charged after deputies reported finding a smoking device containing suspected PCP and a plastic straw with suspected cocaine residue during an encounter at St. Mary’s Square.
Joshua Antonie Miles, 37, was charged with CDS possession-not cannabis, CDS possession of paraphernalia and resisting or interfering with arrest following the June 13, 2026, incident.
According to charging documents, deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the area of St. Mary’s Square when they contacted Miles.
A deputy reported observing Miles with his left fist closed as if he was trying to conceal an item. When asked to open his hand, Miles complied, and the deputy observed an improvised glass smoking device, along with a blue lighter and a wooden rod.
Charging documents state the smoking device contained brown liquid suspected to be phencyclidine, also known as PCP.
When deputies attempted to place Miles in handcuffs, he actively resisted by pulling away multiple times after being told he was under arrest, according to charging documents.
During a search incident to arrest, deputies allegedly found a clear plastic straw with white residue in Miles’ front right pocket. The residue was suspected to be cocaine.
Court records show Miles was initially held without bond June 14 and was released on recognizance June 15.
