La Plata, MD – An early morning fire destroyed a 2002 Ford Escape and caused damage to a nearby vehicle, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred Friday, Dept. 5 around 2:18 a.m. on Mason Spring in La Plata.

“The accidental fire, which began in the engine compartment, destroyed the 2002 Ford Escape and damaged a nearby Chevrolet Suburban,” Dfm. Melissa Decker stated. “There were no injuries as a result of the fire.”

Damage is estimated at $1,500. Five firefighters from Marbury were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought it under control in five minutes.
