A busy week aiding displaced residents of a local mobile home park earned praise for several local teachers and county government staff from the Calvert County Commissioners. The comments were made during the boardโ€™s Tuesday, Feb. 4 meeting.

During prepared remarks delivered during commissionersโ€™ reports, Commissioner Evan K. Slaughenhoupt Jr. [R] singled out County Administrator Terry L. Shannon, Department of Community Resources Director Maureen Hoffman, Department of Public Safety Director Jacqueline Vaughan and County Attorney John Norris for their leadership during the days following the countyโ€™s discovery of wretched living conditions inside several units at the mobile home park at Hallowing Point.

Slaughenhoupt also commended the public school teachers who first alerted county officials about the situation.
โ€œUltimately, the owner and manager are responsible and held accountable for the unacceptable living conditions that we encountered and fellow citizens were resigned to endure,โ€ Slaughenhoupt stated. โ€œThere is plenty of time to address what changes we should implement as the situationย is still evolving.ย Displaced families are still in the process of being relocated.โ€


Commissionersโ€™ President Pat Nutter [R] saluted โ€œthe educational staff in this county that saw something wasnโ€™t rightโ€ and also praised county government staff, area churches and the local restaurants which offered meals to the displaced residents. โ€œWe felt good about the response we had.โ€

Slaughenhoupt commended deputies from the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office for โ€œproviding that top level protection.โ€

Specifically signaled out for its contribution in helping address the displacement situation was End Hunger in Calvert.

โ€œThe deplorable cond
