Near 11:30 a.m. June 8, Benedict Volunteer Fire Department’s Boat 5 gave mutual aide to Calvert County units fighting a boat fire on the water where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay, reports Benedict VFD Safety Officer Sean Kerrigan.
Calvert communications advised all occupants were off the boat and taken ashore by DNR Police.
Calvert Boat 3 went on the scene with a working boat fire. When Benedict’s boat arrived on scene, the fire was knocked. The crew assisted with hitting hot spots and applying foam.
The cause of the fire on the 60-foot boat is still under investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard.
