At approximately 8:36 pmย yesterday, October 12, the Calvert Control Center received at least six 911 calls from citizens who reported seeing a woman jump off of the center span of the Thomas Johnson Bridge.ย
Calvert County Sheriffโs Deputies and Troopers from the Prince Frederick Barrack responded to the bridge and located a 1996 Ford Explorer parked at the top.ย The vehicle was unoccupied and a cellular telephone was located near by on the roadway. A subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle is registered to Teresa Mae Pearson-Smith, age 42 of St. Leonard.ย A check of the cellular telephone revealed that it was also that of Teresa Mae Pearson-Smith.
The Calvert Investigative Team, with the assistance from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland State Police Aviation Division, Calvert County Dive Team, Solomonโs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and the United Stateโs Coast Guard conducted a search and rescue operation.ย
Members of the Calvert County Dive Team recovered Smithโs body at 9:33 am, at the Test Pilot School Pier on the Patuxent Naval Air Base.ย
