LUSBY, Md. — Firefighters in Calvert County brought a brush fire under control Friday afternoon after it spread through a wooded area and threatened nearby structures in Lusby.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 3:19 p.m., March 20 to the 10300 block of Breeden Road after a caller reported a leaf burn that had gotten out of control. Initial reports indicated the fire was spreading north through brush and grass, covering an area estimated to be less than two acres while posing a threat to non-residential buildings.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including brush, tanker, and suppression crews, as firefighters worked to contain the advancing flames. Officials confirmed no hazardous materials were involved and no injuries were reported.
The fire has since been placed under control, with crews remaining on scene to extinguish hot spots and prevent any flare-ups.
The incident remains under investigation, but early information suggests the fire originated from a leaf burn that escaped containment.
