PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved six additional members to the county’s Commission for Women at the Aug. 18 meeting.
According to its mission statement, the Commission for Women “is dedicated to developing opportunities for women, eliminating barriers that prevent them from realizing their full potential, and recognizing the contributions of women in Calvert County. The Commission works to improve opportunities for women and girls by promoting education and employment, serving as a voice and advocate, identifying and studying relevant issues, acting as a clearinghouse for information, and giving recognition to outstanding women and girls in the community.”
The Commission has a total of 15 seats. The six appointments confirmed on Aug. 18 leave no additional vacancies on the Commission. Each commissioner serves a term of three years, and there are no term limits to serve.
Members of the BOCC confirmed the new members of the Commission for Women in a unanimous yes vote. The BOCC president also thanked Emily Shrieves, constituent services specialist, for her work filling the volunteer commissions in the county.
The new appointees are Veronica Burnett, Mary Brown, Christy Jones, Josephine Baiamonte Capraro, Ashley Adoko and Tracy Loyd.
The Commission for Women meets every third Thursday of the month, except for December, at 7 p.m. at 901 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick. Meetings are open to the public, and a hybrid version may be available upon request.
