Calvert Residents Warned To Avoid Creek Following Otter Attack

OWINGS, Md. – The Calvert County Health Department has issued a warning to residents following an incident in which an otter attacked two individuals near a creek on Skinners Turn Road.

The otter, suspected to be a mother protecting her pups, launched the unexpected attack on the unsuspecting individuals who were enjoying time on the water. While it’s likely that the animal was acting in defense of her offspring, the health department has not ruled out the possibility that the otter may be infected with rabies or another illness.

As a precautionary measure, residents are being urged to avoid the area for the next two weeks.

“The safety of our community is our top priority,” a representative from the health department said. “We strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this area until further notice.”

The health department will continue to monitor the situation and update the public accordingly.

  1. Not an otter one. They more than likely were horseplaying around too close to her pups. Tis that season.

  2. Folks, turns out this thing does have rabies and is presumed dead at this point. I got proof. Stay safe out there y’all!
