PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools presented its draft fiscal 2027 Comprehensive Maintenance Plan to the Board of Education (BOE) on Aug. 13, outlining priorities for the coming year and challenges facing the district’s facilities.

The annual plan helps guide maintenance and long-term facility planning across the school system.

Among the priorities for fiscal 2027 are exploring replacement options for the maintenance department’s vehicle fleet, creating an asset-tagging system to better track equipment and developing a system to manage facility inspections, testing and other compliance requirements.

The district also plans to improve its use of Operations Hero, a maintenance management system that allows staff to track work and collect data on recurring facility issues.

Officials said maintaining aging buildings remains a challenge, particularly as replacement parts for older systems become harder to find. The district is also facing rising costs for inspections and specialized maintenance, along with difficulties recruiting and retaining maintenance employees.

Board members also received updates on ongoing projects.

At Calvert Elementary School and Calvert Country School, officials said a new well pump had been installed and the system was being flushed and tested. The district is awaiting test results before returning the drinking water system to service.

The board also asked about construction of the new Northern Middle School. Officials said the contractor was projecting completion in early to mid-October, with a move into the new building targeted for around Election Day, pending remaining work and inspections.

The draft maintenance plan will be available for public review for 30 days before returning to the board Sept. 10 for consideration.
