CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — The Student Safety and Well-Being Advisory Committee (SSWAC) has launched a survey inviting students, parents, educators and community members to provide ideas on how to make schools safer and students more supported.
The survey is available now and will remain open until July 18. It gathers information about your role in the community and school system and then asks participants to rate their experience in school — particularly if existing supports are effective and what can be done to change them.
The aim of the survey is to inform school policies, with the goal of creating a more inclusive learning environment that better serves the students.
SSWAC consists of 15 voting members and is appointed by the Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). The committee does not include more than three Calvert County Public Schools employees or 1099 contractors, and members are not compensated.
The committee meets once a month and holds a public listening session at the beginning of each quarter. Its aim is to consider the latest best practices in safety and student health to advise the district on policy.
Mental health, in particular, has been top of mind at both BOCC and Board of Education meetings. SSWAC hasn’t confirmed any specific policies about their latest survey.
