St. Leonard, MD – A fire that damaged a home in Calvert County late Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 23 remains under investigation, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office the blaze at a two-story, wood-framed, single family house on Leos Way in St. Leonard was discovered and reported by the homeowner at approximately 5:40 p.m.

“The owners discovered a fire outside, under their deck in a stacked pile of cut firewood,” a deputy fire marshal’s report stated. “The fire quickly extended to the wooden deck above before the fire department arrived and contained it to the exterior of the house.”
No injuries were reported. Damage to the property is estimated at $80,000. The home’s occupants were identified as the Loveless family.

Twenty-five firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 20 minutes. Anyone who might have information that could aid investigators should call the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6820.
