
LA PLATA, Md. — An 18-month-old boy was flown to Children’s National Medical Center Sunday evening following a drowning incident at a home in La Plata.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:25 p.m. Aug. 9 to the 1300 block of Leicester Drive for a reported child drowning.
Initial information indicated the toddler had been removed from a swimming pool and was conscious and breathing by the end of the 911 call.
Firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the home and requested a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter for transport.
Trooper 2 responded and airlifted the 18-month-old to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Additional information on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the child’s condition was not immediately available.
