At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Monday, an accident occurred on state Route 235 involving a dark Xterra SUV and silver Nissan. According to one of the police officers on the scene, the Nissan merged into the turn lane while the Xterra was already in the lane.
This caused the Xterra to clip the silver vehicle and send it airborne. The crash resulted in the Xterra driving up the curb and into a tree on the side of the road. TheNissan flipped over, landing on the top of the vehicle.
The incident took place in front of the Dodge Chrysler Jeep car dealership.
The driver of the Nissan, a 24 year-old male, was taken to the St. Maryโs Hospital in Leonardtown. Theย driver of the Xterra did not wish to be taken to any hospital for medical treatment. All of the injuries were non-life threatening, according to the officer on the scene.
The officer explained that speed was most likely a factor in the situation.
Bay District/Lexington Park volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad along with the St. Maryโs County Sheriffs Department were on the scene in minutes.
