NEWBURG, Md. — We are receiving reports of a near fatal accident in Charles County this evening.

At approximately 11:21 p.m. on August 1, first responders were dispatched to the scene in the area of Rock Point Road for reports of a motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle that was involved was also on fire.

Upon arrival, crews discovered what was described as a “near fatal” wreck with extensive fire damage. The accident has been described as a head-on collision that left one subject trapped and at least one other vehicle with fire damage.ย 

One patient that was involved has been described as having suffered life-threatening injuries and is being transported to a nearby trauma center for further treatment. It is unclear what the status is of any other people who were potentially involved.ย 

Rock Point Road is being shut down temporarily while the accident is investigated. An alert put out by Charles County says the road “is closed in both directions between Higdon Elementary and Shiloh Church Road.”

Expect delays and avoid the area if possible.
