GREAT MILLS, Md. — Three people face a combined 31 drug and paraphernalia charges after a Maryland State Police trooper responding to reports of people unconscious inside a vehicle at a Great Mills gas station allegedly discovered suspected heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, needles and smoking devices throughout the SUV.
The incident occurred around 8:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, when a trooper responded to the Sheetz on Old Great Mills Road for a report of three occupants of a vehicle who appeared to be unconscious.
The trooper located a Chevrolet Equinox stopped at a gas pump and reported that all three occupants appeared unconscious. Charging documents state the trooper knocked on the window several times before the occupants began waking up.
The driver was identified as Louis Eugene Messineo, 31, of Mechanicsville. The passengers were identified as Linda Bond, 31, of Lexington Park, and Francis Miles, 64, of Lexington Park.
Court documents state police had received another call involving the same three people earlier in the area of Suburban Drive, where they had reportedly been found slumped over in a vehicle. The trooper wrote that the occupants woke up, reported they were OK and left before police assistance was needed.
During the encounter at Sheetz, the trooper reported that Messineo appeared slow and lethargic, his speech was slow, thick and slurred, and his pupils were constricted.
A St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was called to conduct a free-air sniff and alerted to the vehicle, according to charging documents.
Police then searched the Equinox and allegedly recovered numerous suspected drugs and items of paraphernalia from different areas of the vehicle.
Among the items described in the charging documents were an exposed needle containing liquid suspected to be heroin, a bottle cap containing a white rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine, a silver pipe containing suspected cocaine residue and another used needle suspected of containing heroin.
Investigators also reported finding glass smoking devices containing suspected crack cocaine residue, folded paper containing suspected cocaine, a metal spoon containing suspected cocaine and heroin with burn marks on the bottom, and additional smoking devices inside a backpack.
The suspected drugs and paraphernalia were reportedly found throughout the driver and passenger areas of the SUV, including the center console, door area, passenger-side floor and bags inside the vehicle.
Charging documents state Messineo, Bond and Miles each denied knowing about drugs inside the vehicle.
All three were arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Messineo was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and eight counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, for a total of 11 charges. Court records show he was released on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond.
Miles was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and seven counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.
Bond was also charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and seven counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.
A trial for Bond is scheduled for Sept. 22, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
