Veterans Day:ย The Offices of the Charles County Government, and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, MD, will be closed on Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day.ย The Charles County Sanitary Landfill, Recycling Center and Composting Facility in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center will be open.ย Curbside recycling service will not be affected.

Permit Seminars:ย The Department of Planning and Growth Managementโs Permits Administration will offer a free seminar on Sediment and Erosion Control Inspections on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 9 a.m. in theCommissionersโ Meeting Room in the County Government Building.

Hazardous Waste Collection:ย The final 2007 household hazardous waste collection day will be on Saturday, December 1, 2007, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Charles County Sanitary Landfill on Billingsley Road East between Piney Church Road and Route 5.ย ย
Items accepted free of charge include pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, paint, cleaning supplies, pool chemicals, batteries, expired prescription drugs, and other poisons that are around your house. ย Please keep the materials in their original containers whenever possible, and bring them to the collection site in cardboard boxes to ease unloading.

County Administrator Re-Elected Association President:ย Charles County Administrator Paul W. Comfort, Esq. has been re-elected as President of the Maryland County Administrator’s Association.ย Mr. Comfort was re-elected for an unprecedented fourth consecutive term by his peers at the recent Maryland Association of Counties Administrators and Attorneys Conference held in Annapolis, Maryland.ย
