At 4 am, on March 20, the Prince Georgeโs County Police Department notified the Charles County Sheriffโs Office of a stolen vehicle entering Charles County on Crain Highwayin Waldorf.
As officers responded to southbound Crain Highway in Waldorf, Officer J. Timko located the vehicle near Vernon Road. He attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled south. Other officers deployed stop sticks, which the suspect struck at Smallwood Drive and again at Billingsley Road.
The driver slowed down near Demarr Roadin White Plains and attempted to exit the vehicle while it was still moving. When the vehicle stopped, the driver exited through the passenger side window and a short foot chase ensued.
Officer Timko and other officers who arrived on the scene apprehended the driver, Anthony Roman Butler, 45, of Washington, D.C., and the passenger, Lester Jackson, 49, of Riverdale, who remained at the vehicle.
Butler and Jackson were arrested and charged with stolen motor vehicle, theft valued at more than $500, destruction of property valued at more than $500 and fourth-degree burglary.
Butler was also charged with reckless driving, negligent driving, speeding, driving with an expired license and failure to stop at a red light.
Jackson was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers discovered a device for smoking crack.
Both men were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
