15 Sobriety Tests Lead to 7 DUI Arrests

The Maryland State Police and the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office joined together for โ€œCheckpoint Strikeforceโ€ at 11:00 p.m. Friday, September 9th, to 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning (10th). The operation was conducted on U.S. Rt. 301 south of Smallwood Drive in Waldorf. The Checkpoint was manned by fifteen Maryland State Troopers and three Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Deputies. A total of 693 vehicles were checked during the operation, and 15 motorists were pulled to the side for additional field sobriety testing. Of that fifteen, seven were arrested and charged with driving under the influence, and one arrest was made for a handgun violation.

Officers Find Stolen Handgun During Checkpoint Strikeforce:

09/10/05 2:07a.m. During the โ€œCheckpoint Strikeforceโ€, a search of a vehicle incident to arrest revealed a handgun stolen from out of state. The passenger in the vehicle, Jimmie NMN Thompson Jr., 30 years, of Upper Marlboro, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen handgun. Mr. Thompson was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. TFC M. Cox conducted this investigation.
