WELCOME, Md. — An 8-year-old boy was flown to a pediatric trauma center Thursday evening with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a boat propeller at Goose Bay Marina & Campground in Charles County.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 5:20 p.m. on July 23, 2026, to the marina, located at 9365 Goose Bay Lane in Welcome, for a reported traumatic injury.

Emergency dispatch information indicated the boy suffered severe injuries to his legs after being struck by a boat propeller. Early reports stated he was breathing but unconscious, with later updates indicating he was awake but going in and out of consciousness.

Responders reported major lacerations to both legs, a broken hip and a tourniquet applied before transport.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was requested to the scene. The boy was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
