Maryland State Fire Marshall’s are investigating a house fire caused by a child playing with a grill lighter.
Firefighters from Waldorf, Bryans Road, Accokeek and Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the report of a fire in the 3500 block of Halford Street in Waldorf on June 9 around 4:51 p.m.
Crews arrived on the scene to discover a fire started as a result of a child playing with a grill lighter. Smoke alarms were present and activated. The fire was contained to a mattress in the child’s bedroom. The fire was extinguished by the child’s mother with a bottle of water, prior to the fire department arriving.
No injuries were reported.
