PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Children’s Theater of Southern Maryland (CTSMD) is getting ready to kick off its holiday performance season at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14, and has a new offering for this year: a special accessible Saturday matinee.
This year’s show is “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical.” In this story, a 1970s small-town community is rocked when their beloved annual church pageant is taken over by the whole pack of “Horrible Herdman” troublemakers. Based on the classic book of the same name by Barbara Robinson, “Pageant” is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. A cast of 31 local actors ages 8 to 18 have been working since August to bring the funny, heartwarming holiday show to life.
“This cast has worked tirelessly to develop these colorful, beautiful characters, and I couldn’t be more proud,” said director Aly Cross. “So, hang onto your halos and enjoy the show. SHA-ZAM!!!”
CTSMD added the special accessible Saturday matinee this year to be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. Accessibility coordinator Molly Crumbley explained that CTSMD believes theater is for everyone, and they wanted to remove some of the barriers for members of the community. This performance will have ASL interpretation, low lighting and sound, and sensory kits. The kits are free to borrow for all performances and contain noise-reducing headphones, sensory lap mats and fidgets.
Attendees to the accessible matinee can reserve kits ahead of time when buying tickets or ask for one at the box office.
The performance takes place at St. John Vianney Family Life Center at 225 Holy Family Lane, Prince Frederick, MD 20678. The show will run for two weekends and the schedule is as follows:
- Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m.* and 6 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
