LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County authorized an additional grant award of $1,000 to all recipients of the St. Mary’s County COVID-19 Small Business and Non-Profit Relief program.

The Commissioners authorized $2 million to this grant program from federal CARES Act funding that came through the State of Maryland.  The program has been a great success, with approximately 200 local businesses and non-profit entities receiving grants of $5,000 or $7,500.

With this decision, entities that have received a grant of $5,000 or $7,500 will now get an additional $1,000.  To obtain the extra $1,000, grantees must simply return an addendum to their existing grant agreement.  The addendum will be emailed to each recipient.

The application process is still open, and new grant awards will be $6,000 for businesses and non-profit organizations with 15 or fewer employees and $8,500 for entities with 16 to 30 employees.

Grants may be used for working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses, or other similar expenses that occur in the ordinary course of business.  Please note that grant eligibility requirements have not changed.

Eligible businesses and non-profits are invited to submit an online application at  https://www.yesstmarysmd.com/grants/
