CSM showcases spring musical performances

CSM Music Student Honors Recital. 2:30 p.m., April 28, College of

Road, La Plata. CSM students taking private music lessons for credit
will perform a recital. Performers who specialize in voice, piano,
woodwind, brass, strings and guitar are selected by their instructor.

CSM Chorale. 8 p.m., April 28, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata
Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. The concert will
feature a humor filled program with pieces from Vernon Duke’s Musical
Zoo with poetry by Ogden Nash, selections from Ivor Davies’ “Prayers
from Noah’s Ark,” Ernst Toch’s “The Geographical Fugue” and
“I Bought Me a Cat” by Aaron Copland. The chorale is conducted by
Michael Santana. Brenda Macafee will be the accompanist for the evening.

CSM Latin Music Festival. 8 p.m., April 29, College of Southern
Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road, La
Plata. A concert by Ritmo Caché, CSM’s Latin ensemble, directed by
Stephen Johnson will present an evening of salsa, Latin jazz, cha-cha
and Latin pop. A door prize consisting of a new set of LP Aspire bongo
drums will be given away to a member of the audience through a drawing
at the end of the concert. The drums are a donation from Garrett Music

CSM Middle and High School Jazz Clinic. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., May 6, College

Road, La Plata. John Fedchock, world renowned trombonist, will rehearse
and critique each band as part of the annual Jazz Festival May 6-7.
