HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — Firefighters were dispatched Tuesday morning for a working house fire in the Marley Run area of Huntingtown after callers reported smoke, flames and possible explosions coming from a residential structure.

The fire was reported around 8:50 a.m. on June 9, 2026, in the area of Mayberry Avenue.

A caller reported seeing dark black smoke and later confirmed a house fire. Additional callers reported flames visible through the woods, with the second story and roof on fire.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the first and second floors of a single-family home, with fire extending into the roof area.

Firefighters quickly deployed handlines and an aerial ladder to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading further through the home. Crews brought the fire under control and remained on scene for extensive overhaul operations, checking for hot spots and fully extinguishing remaining fire.

The home sustained significant damage, primarily to the upper level and roof area.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. The American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and two children displaced by the blaze.

A dog was found in a crate in the master bathroom and was believed to be deceased, according to initial reports.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
