GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Dameron man was charged after Maryland State Police reported he pulled a handgun on a woman and stole about 70 Oxycodone pills during a robbery in Great Mills.

Deshawn Swein Campbell, 18, of Dameron, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, three counts of first-degree assault, four counts of second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime, possession of a firearm by a minor, wearing or carrying a handgun on his person and transporting a handgun in a vehicle.

The charges stem from a May 30, 2026, incident in the area of Norris Road in Great Mills.

According to charging documents, Maryland State Police began investigating after a report of an armed robbery was made to the Glen Burnie barrack. The victim reported receiving a call asking her to pick up Campbell and drive him to his uncle’s house.

Court documents state the victim picked up Campbell in her Nissan Altima and stopped at the Sheetz at 22711 Three Notch Road in California, where Campbell bought a Sprite before they continued to a residence off Norris Road.

After they arrived in front of the residence, Campbell pulled a handgun from his shorts with his right hand and pointed it at the victim, charging documents state.

The victim reported that she feared for her life and emptied a prescription bottle containing approximately 70 Oxycodone 15 mg pills into Campbell’s hand before throwing the empty bottle toward the driver’s floorboard, according to charging documents.

Campbell then got out of the vehicle, entered a black Hyundai Elantra and left the area, court documents state.

Charging documents state the victim later drove to another residence connected to Campbell and saw him walking toward the home wearing different clothing and yelling at her. The victim reported he then showed her stairs leading to a basement and told her that was where she needed to go if she wanted to live.

The victim later picked up her boyfriend from work in St. Mary’s County, drove to her residence in Glen Burnie and contacted law enforcement, according to charging documents.

Court documents state the Maryland Gun Center advised that Campbell was prohibited from possessing firearms because he was under 21 and had prior juvenile adjudications that would be disqualifying if committed by an adult.

An arrest warrant was issued June 16 and served June 17, according to court records.

In a separate case tied to the warrant service, Campbell was charged after St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that he resisted arrest while search and seizure warrants were being served at a residence in Dameron.

According to charging documents in that case, members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded June 16 to a residence in the 17000 block of Three Notch Road in Dameron to serve several search and seizure warrants, including a residential search warrant and a search and seizure warrant for Campbell.

When deputies arrived, Campbell was seated in a vehicle. Deputies gave him verbal commands to walk toward them, and he initially complied, according to charging documents.

A sheriff’s office sergeant then approached Campbell to place him in custody and carry out the warrant. Charging documents state the sergeant attempted to remove a cellphone from Campbell’s hand, and Campbell pulled away while trying to keep control of the phone.

Deputies placed Campbell on the ground to maintain control, according to charging documents. Once on the ground, Campbell continued to resist by rolling onto his back to avoid being handcuffed.

At one point, Campbell struck the sergeant in the chest with his hand. Charging documents state Campbell’s actions hindered the investigation and the service of the search and seizure warrants.

Court records show Campbell was initially held without bond June 17 in the robbery case and later released on recognizance following a bail review hearing that day before Judge James Tanavage in St. Mary’s County District Court.

Campbell was later arrested again June 25 by detectives with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division in connection with a separate double shooting investigation on Hilton Drive in Lexington Park. In that case, he was charged with 17 counts, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, firearm-related charges and illegal possession of ammunition.

Court records show an arrest warrant in the shooting case was issued June 24 and served June 25. Campbell was ordered held without bond June 25, and that status remained in place after a June 26 bail review hearing before Judge James Tanavage.

A preliminary hearing in the robbery case is set for July 16 in St. Mary’s County District Court. A preliminary hearing in the shooting case is set for July 24. A trial in the resisting arrest case is set for Aug. 10.
