December 3, 5, & 12 – Sea Squirts presents Hoppers and Ploppers: All About Frogs

Come sing songs, dance the frog dance, play some games, and meet the museumโ€™s frogs to learn more about these jumpy little critters. 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Free drop-in program for children ages 18 months to 3 years old and their care givers.

December 6 & 7 – Solomons Island Christmas Walk

The annual Solomons Island Christmas Walk lights up the museum with luminaries and holiday decorations. The museum is open and free from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Come and enjoy live musical entertainment, holiday crafts, and refreshments. The Museum Store will be open with original gifts for everyone in the family and members will receive 20% off for the entire weekend of the Christmas Walk starting on Friday. Santa and the museum otter will also be there to join in on the fun.

December 15 & 22 – Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshops

For children ages 5 and older. Taking place throughout the day at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Fee is $4 per child. Sign up at the admission desk the day of. Space is limited โ€“ first come, first served. This program is in high demand, so come early to secure your spot.

Sunday, December 15 – War of 1812 Speakerโ€™s Series presents Donald Shomette and Gary Rue & Company performing 1812: Tide of War

This original musical performance, also available on CD, describes Marylandโ€™s role in the events of the War of 1812. Shomette and Rue worked together to shape into melody the stories of the Maryland heroes and heroines whose lives were caught up in the drama of the final wrenching of the fledgling America from the influence of Great Britain.ย  The fourth in a series of lectures on the War of 1812 will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick campus in the new Leed Certified building. This series is sponsored by the Maryland Humanities Council, Star Spangled 200, Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, and The Calvert Marine Museum. Admission is FREE.

Thursday, December 19 – Little Minnows presents Whose Tracks Are These?

Animal tracks are like calling cards, they tell us who came to call when we werenโ€™t looking. In the book Whose Tracks Are These? by Jim Nail, we learn how to read clues found in animalโ€™s tracks and discover the hidden visitors to our local ponds and rivers. What kinds of animals stop at our salt marsh for a midnight snack?ย  Weโ€™ll visit the marsh to โ€œread the cluesโ€ and then make some animal tracks of our own. Program for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers. 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fee is $5 per child, $4 for members. Pre-registration suggested; call 410-326-2042, ext. 41.
