PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools voted to approve the appointment of Denise D. Mandis to the position of supervisor of special education at their Nov. 13 Board of Education (BOE) meeting. Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome formally recommended Mandis for the post, and she was voted in unanimously by the board.
Mandis has previously served as an elementary school principal and as supervisor of instruction for academic programs, library, media and Advanced Placement in St. Mary’s County Public Schools. She’s also worked as a high school assistant principal and special education instructor in Leonardtown, and as a special education instructor at Springfield Elementary School.
Mandis is board certified with a post-master’s certification in administration and supervision from Towson University and holds a master’s in special education from George Mason University.
Mandis accepted the role and spoke briefly to the board and members of the public in attendance.
“It’s so exciting for me to continue my journey in education here at Calvert County Public Schools,” she said. “I really look forward to serving our students, our families, our community, and bringing my experience here.”
She thanked the board and Dr. Newsome for the opportunity.
“I’m super excited to begin this journey,” Mandis concluded.
