Shortly after 5:30 p.m. April 27, Calvert County Sheriff Animal Control Officer Thomas Guy responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Harvest Grove Lane in Prince Frederick for a dog bite.
The residence has a daycare operating from it. He learned that the victim, a five-year-old female, was at the daycare when she was attacked by the family dog, a pit-bull/lab mix.
The dog bit the child on the left side of the head, partially biting off the child’s ear.
Maryland State Police Trooper 7 Helicopter flew the five-year-old to a hospital in Washington, D.C.
Guy removed the dog and transported it to the Tri-County Animal Shelter for the standard 10-day quarantine.
The dog was current with its rabies vaccination and county dog license.
