LANDOVER, Md. — Fans are celebrating as the Washington Commanders bring back some of the most recognizable elements in franchise history with the unveiling of their 2026 uniforms.
The team revealed the redesigned lineup Wednesday, April 15, 2026, and the reaction was immediate — excitement, nostalgia and widespread praise as the spear-inspired look and classic striped helmet returned.
Social media quickly filled with positive reactions, with many fans applauding the move back to tradition and a look that closely resembles the franchise’s Super Bowl-era identity, when the team played as the Washington Redskins.
At the center of the update is the return of the gloss burgundy helmet with the signature three-stripe design and gold facemask — a style tied to some of the most successful years in team history. That helmet will be worn with both primary uniform sets.

The burgundy jersey returns as a primary look, inspired by that era, featuring bold block-style numbers on the front, back and shoulders. The white jersey also steps into a primary role, maintaining the same traditional striping and numbering details.
Both uniforms can be paired with gold pants, which now feature a two-stripe design. The striped gold pants date back to the 1960s and became a defining look during the 1970s when Washington rose to prominence, adding another layer of history to the updated design.
The team emphasized that the block-style font — used throughout much of the franchise’s history — will now be featured across all uniforms, including nameplates and shoulder numbers, reinforcing the throwback feel.
Alongside the classic sets, the Commanders introduced a bold alternate uniform known as the “Hail Raiser.” The all-black design features a matte black helmet with a spear-inspired “W” logo, marking the return of a symbol that has been part of the franchise’s identity since the 1960s and was also used during its 70th anniversary season in the early 2000s. The alternate uniform will be worn up to four times during the regular season.

While the alternate brings a modern edge, the franchise made clear it remains anchored in its traditional burgundy and gold color scheme, a consistent identity for decades.
For many supporters, the return of the spear and stripe elements feels bigger than just a redesign. It signals a renewed focus on tradition and identity — something fans have been calling for.
With the 2026 season approaching, one thing is clear: the return of the spear, the stripe helmet and the classic, Redskins-era resemblance has already struck a chord across the fanbase.
