Broadcaster and meteorologist for WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., Doug
Hill, will be the keynote speaker for the College of Southern
Maryland’s Communication Day on March 29. A native Marylander and
resident of Calvert County, Hill has earned a reputation as one of
Washington’s most accurate and entertaining weather forecasters.
As vice president, weather and chief meteorologist, Hill brings nearly
30 years of experience to his daily broadcasts on ABC7/WJLA-TV News at 5
and 6 p.m. Hill has been honored with a Washington Emmy Award for
broadcast excellence and has been awarded the “Seal of Approval” from
the American Meteorological Society.
Hill began his broadcast career in 1978 at WWBT-TV in Richmond, Va. In
1980 he worked for both WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV in Detroit, before returning
to Washington, D.C.in 1984 to work for a CBS affiliate.
Hill attended Towson State College before he entered the U.S. Air
Force.
After his military service, Hill worked as a Prince George’s County
Police Officer for six years and then made the unlikely switch from cop
to broadcaster.
Communication Day will showcase CSM’s Communication and Media Studies
programs as well as the new Digital Media Production Program and will be
held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the La Plata Campus, Center for Business
and Industry Building. CSM communication students will be joined by
students from area high schools. The event is open to anyone interested
in the communication field and will feature career exploration
information, a public speaking contest, and professional and student-led
panel discussions.
