โA hero is one who does what he can. The others don’t.โ โ Romain Rolland
September 11th is not a day we celebrate but one we remember and honor the innocent lives that were lost and the brave heroes who responded that day.
Not to be forgotten, or mentioned, are the thousands of soldiers weโve lost fighting a war that resulted from this attack, the ones that continue to protect our countryโs interests and the soldiers who have been wounded in action.
Our country is a great one and one filled with good people. We as a country use our tax dollars and give food to needy countries that have starvation, give aid to countries that struggle for civil rights and humanity, give money to countries to help them establish a financial system and offer military support in times of turmoil.
Helping others is what we do. I wish we cared as much for our own citizens, but all in all, we are a pretty damn great country.
So for one day, what is it worth to give a little back to OUR heroes? Do we ever say thank you enough to all of these brave men and women who protect us, keep us safe and save our lives, all while facing adverse conditions and unknown dangers? Maybe we should.
Several years ago I decided to start a day of free chiropractic care for all active and retired military and first responders like; police, sheriff, EMS, Fire Department, etc. It was a small way to give back.
Last year as a member of the Maryland Chiropractic Association Public Relation Committee, they asked for opportunities to do more for the surrounding communities. They eagerly adopted this idea and encouraged chiropractors throughout the state to participate. It was a great success.
Many offices offered up free drinks and snacks as well. Iโm not talking beer and peanuts, although that would be nice, but coffee, fruit juice, bagels and other finger foods. Last year DB McMillanโs provided some awesome lunch foods.
This year BJโs Wholesale has offered to donate some bakery foods and juice because Dan, the big boss man, appreciates the magnitude of this day in our history. He didnโt hesitate when I mentioned it to him.
In fact, he immediately decided to give away free BBQ grills and vacuums but I reeled him in and contained his enthusiasm for helping our local heroes. He does a lot for our community already. Thanks Dan and BJโs. (DISCLAIMER: BJโs is not giving away free BBQ grills or Vacuums. Itโs a joke.)
Just call your doctor and see if they are participating and then schedule your appointment.
This isnโt the first time the chiropractic profession has stepped up to the plate. Many chiropractors were actually turned away as they tried to go to Ground Zero to treat 9/11 first responders because the area was already flooded with so many Doctors of Chiropractic on site.
Chiropractors have a long tradition of helping out during tough times. They have also been treating people at the scene of forest fires, disaster sites, like Haiti, and tornado stricken towns.
This year I have asked other businesses in my center, the Wildewood Shopping Center, if they too would give back. It could be a free cup of coffee to 30% off. Some of my fellow businesses have responded.
