Since 1931 there have been turtle races to lift the spirits of the children at John’s Hopkins Children’s Hospital. It is a tradition that first year medical students embrace.

Unlike when it originated, the turtles are now handled by specialists to keep kids safe from any potential health threats.

You can name your turtle, place a bet on your turtle, join the cheerleaders or the Towson football team as they cheer on the participants or just visit with the children and take it all in. The weather was perfect.

Foundation 4 Heroes made their trip to see the kids in the Hero Hummer and brought Michelangelo of Ninja Turtle fame, Batman, Catwoman, Supergirl and Cancer-awareness Hulk Hogan.

Lots of pictures were taken and they were a huge hit, especially since they handed out 50 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle masks to all of the children. It was a lot of fun.

Although the race only lasts about an hour, Foundation 4 Heroes stuck around to see children on other floors who may have been asleep or too ill to venture outside for the festivities.

They spent almost 3 hours at the hospital visiting with parents and children and even found time to bring a case of Girl Scout Mints to be shared by the staff and nurses that do such an amazing job of nurturing and caring for these wonderful kids.

Foundation 4 Heroes is a 501c.3 nonprofit organization comprised of parents willing to dress up as superheroes, princesses, and whatever else it takes, to support parents and bring inspiration and smiles to children in hospitals and in schools.

Remember — “Even Heroes Need a Hero.”
