“The great trouble with baseball today is that most of the players are in the game for the money and that’s it. Not for the love of it, the excitement of it, the thrill of it.” – Hall of Famer Ty Cobb
Memorial Day is a holiday to spend time with your family, go boating, enjoy great savings at stores, have cookouts and oh yeah, remember the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for us.
To me it seems a lot of holidays lose their meaning like when Christmas shopping started before Thanksgiving and people spent less time with their loved ones. Instead, buying gifts for these very people would be more important than direct contact and conversation.
Next youโre going to tell me people will type notes to each other and never pick up a phone to talk or stop by to gossip with one another. Ha. Never happen.
Most of us have family members who have fought in a war and protected this country and our freedoms. My grandfather was in the 9th Army Air Corps in WWII and only as he aged did I hear some of the horrific tales of what he experienced. Many patients and friends have fought in the Middle East and Afghanistan. We owe them our thanks.
I can only hope that one day our government will spend our tax dollars on helping our own tax-paying Veterans and Wounded Warriors versus telling us we have no money and then sending 160 million to Egypt and Syria while they enjoy special healthcare benefits and perks for life.
