Each year the smaller businesses pool their money to help out the community. Halloween, Toys for Tots and Family Fun Day are just a few ways these businesses owners give back to the community. Remember that when you shop and Go Wilde!

This year they teamed up with Foundation 4 Heroes (F4H), the local 501c.3 nonprofit organization that focuses on supporting, encouraging and inspiring children with serious health issues and visiting schools to speak with kids about being kind to others and finding their inner hero.

The Southern Maryland Jeepers were invited by and donated money to come out and enjoy the day. Half of that money would be split between three great kids, the Foundation and the other half for one of their own Jeep owners’ daughters, Kiersten, who is receiving treatment in DC.

An amount of $380 was collected and Foundation 4 Heroes threw in another $10 to make it an even $200, which will be delivered today at Childrens’. Kiersten had a wonderful thank you post to the Foundation on facebook.

For those of you baffled by Core Math that’s $380/2 = $190, plus $10 = $200. Pretty easy.

While it was hard to force everyone to donate $10 for a bracelet and $5 for each kid after because there is no clear entry and exit, we did well and it was a fun day. One woman left in disgust with her kids because she expected it to all be free.

Well we were trying to raise money to help the families of some special kids and you never know when you will need a community behind you. Your life can change in an instant.

In fact, Alexx, one of the wonderful kids we were trying to raise money for, passed away Tuesday before the event and her check will go to her grandmother for funeral costs.

After combining any profit from food sales with SoMD Jeepers donation and bracelet sales, $281.50 was collected for the other 4 recipients. F4H topped that off so the three kids will get a cool $300.

The contests were super fun and it was great to have Syanne Centeno, Miss Maryland World, moderate the Princess contest for us. She also is the founder and President behind the Warrior Princess Initiative, a fantastic nonprofit organization that lifts the spirits of children with life-threatening diseases.

She has also recently started a Hero initiative for boys. Intelligence, beauty and empathy wrapped up in one amazing woman. Your parents raised you well.

The winner of the Superhero Contest donated her $100 back to Foundation 4 Heroes because of the special work they do. That my friends is paying it forward and seeing the big picture at a very young age. Amazing.

Kreative Kharacters’ face-painting and The Balloon Nerd were both a hit on such a warm, sunny day. Thank goodness there was a huge moon bounce to tire out the kids for parents and a dolphin slide to clean them off before they passed out at home.

Special thanks go out to Bay District Fire Department, St. Mary’s County Sheriff Department, Chick fil-A, the Brew & BBQ Crew Event Staff, DJ Kevin, The Baynet, Big Larry’s Eatery, The REX, Holiday Inn, Quality Inn & Suites, Home 2 Inn by Hilton, Outback Steakhouse, Bob Evans, Ace Upholstery, Body Anew Massage and Mike Batson Photography.

Also we would like to thank the volunteers that maintained sanity with the kid’s excitement and helped setup the event.
