LEONARDTOWN, MD – Dr. Michael J. Martirano, superintendent of schools, has been named the 2011 recipient of the Jack Epstein Award by the Maryland Multicultural Coalition/Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education (MMC/NAME).
“Dr. Martirano is an outstanding educator and leader who constantly strives to bring innovative programs to our school system,” said Dr. Salvatore Raspa, chairman of the Board of Education of St. Mary’s County. “He leaves no stone unturned when it comes to finding ways to educate all children to their fullest potential. That has always been his motto. He is a dynamic, innovative, inspirational leader who is deserving of this award. We are so fortunate to have him in St. Mary’s County.”
The Jack Epstein Award recognizes an individual for exemplary commitment to Education that is Multicultural in Maryland, and recognizes their dedication to creating educational environments in which all people are valued equally and where all are inspired to work together in schools and communities.
